MUSKEGON — Looking to break a six-game losing streak, the Hart girls soccer team traveled to take on the Muskegon Big Reds in a non-conference match Wednesday night.

It took some time for the Pirates to adjust to Muskegon’s physical play, but once they did, the floodgates opened for an 8-0 victory over the Big Reds.

Julia Geiner scored four goals to lead the way. Hart sophomore Devyn Adams broke through to score the Pirates’ first goal following a free kick when she delivered the set piece, putting the ball in the top of the net.

The Pirates were awarded another free kick just outside the penalty area and senior left winger Geiner scored her first goal of the game to give Hart a 2-0 lead.

With just over 16 minutes left in the first half, Greiner beat a defender on the outside and drove into the penalty area, getting fouled in the back and earning a penalty. That goal made it 3-0.

Junior midfielder and captain Sydney Goodrich broke into the box with 14 minutes to play in the first half, fired a pass to Sandy Salgado, who smartly finished her shot in the side netting. Hart led 6-0 at the half.

Greiner and Salgado finished the scoring for the Pirates in the second half and the game ended due to the eight-goal mercy rule.

Senior keeper Mya Chickering played in the field in the second half as a striker, while freshman Emma Jeffries was in net

The Pirates did not allow a single shot in the first half and only one in the second.

Hart improved to 3-10-4 and close the regular season at home Monday against Montague.
