LUDINGTON — Parker Wendt notched a hat trick in leading the Ludington boys’ soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of visiting Orchard View on Wednesday night.

Ultan Ryan scored the other goal for the Orioles, who were playing their third game in three nights and improved their record to 7-2.

“This was a tough one for us, just physically and then also mentally pushing through,” said Ludington coach Kris Anderson. “You could tell tonight. Our touches were off, our hitting the ball was a little off and that was really due to the fact that our legs were spent.

“Yesterday’s game against Petoskey required a lot, and then this being the third game in three nights, it was a little bit of attrition. But, we powered through and got the result we wanted.”

Ryan also contributed two assists, while Kyle Stidham and Gavin Henion each had one.

Caleb Sheldon and Gabe Gamez split time in goal for the Orioles. Sheldon saved the only two shots the Cardinals managed. The Orioles, who led 3-0 at half, finished with 16 shots.

Ludington (2-0 in the West Michigan Conference) resumes action Wednesday, Sept. 6 when it hosts Montague in the WMC.
