HOLTON – Make it now two wins in a row for Shelby football as the Tigers posted a large margin victory over Holton on Friday, 48-6.

Shelby had huge contributions from their run game in the win. Lead back AJ Melchor posted 120 yards on 11 runs and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers. Lalo Garcia carried the ball 10 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns while his cousin Isaac Garcia went for 41 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Lalo also went 5-for-13 through the air for 71 yards and a touchdown. Top receivers for Shelby included Treyjin Waller (three receptions, 37 yards) and Phillip Hayes (one receiving touchdown).

Defensively, three Shelby athletes had double-digit tackles. Ivan Fessenden had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, Hayes had 11 tackles and an interception and Chase Mero had 11 tackles. Nick Cano also chipped in nine tackles.

Holton also found success on the ground. Riley Pierce ran for 93 yards while Hunter Zang had 50 yards on the ground and David Addison had another 91 rush yards. Pierce also threw for 56 yards through the air.

Shelby moved to 4-2 overall on the year and improved to 2-2 in WMC Rivers action. The Tigers will host Manistee for a non-conference matchup on Friday.

Holton (0-6) will be in search of their first win when it hosts Hart next week.
