ALLENDALE – Grand Haven’s Seth Norder and Valerie Beeck aren’t just the best high school cross-country runners in town, they are also the best in their Division 1 region.
Norder and Beeck ran away with medalist honors, turning in first-place finishes at the Division 1 regional championships at Allendale.
The Bucs boys team took home the regional title with 40 points, edging out Jenison, which finished second with 60 points.
Following close behind Norder in a pack of three was the rest of Grand Haven’s top boys runners, taking the sixth, seventh and eighth spots. Roman Smith (15:59.67), Ben Eisnor (16:07.31) and Luka Hammond (16:16.19) each followed in consecutive order to bring the Bucs across the finish line.
Reeths-Puffer led other area boys teams with a seventh-place finish with 191 points. Mona Shores took 11th place and Muskegon finished in 14th.
Beeck’s top finish paced Grand Haven’s girls squad to a second-place overall finish with 45 points. The Bucs just missed the regional title behind first place Holland West Ottawa’s 42 points.
Reeths-Puffer’s girls team took seventh place, and Mona Shores finished 10th.
The top three teams qualify for the state finals race at Michigan International Speedway next Saturday.
