GRANT – The Kent City football team plowed past Grant in the final game of the regular season, 44-20, on Friday night.
The Eagles continued their strong rushing attack with 429 yards from the ground, led by Caden Hartzell, who had 156 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown.
Joe VanOffelen added 131 rushing yards on 15 carries and two scores while Carson Gorton had 11 attempts for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
Kent City trailed 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but went on a 22-6 second-quarter run to take a 22-12 lead at halftime.
The Eagles led 36-20 going into the final quarter before scoring the lone touchdown of the fourth stanza.
VanOffelen (8-yard run), Arin Sarres (2-yard run) and Gorton (3-yard run) each scored a second-quarter touchdown for Kent City.
Gorton and Hartzell each added scores on runs from 20 and 15 yards out, respectively, before VanOffelen closed out the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run.
The Eagles were paced defensively by Gabe Rusnell with nine tackles while Jake Perry added eight, including a sack. Zach Devoogd chipped in with six tackles and a fumble recovery.
