SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s football team picked up its second straight win Friday night with a convincing 28-7 victory over visiting Shelby at Spartan Field.

It was 14-0 at halftime in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division contest, and the Tigers scored their only touchdown in the third quarter on AJ Melchor’s 65-yard run and then kicked the extra point.

Tyler Norton got things started for the Spartans with a 1-yard bolt into the end zone, but the 2-point conversion was stopped short.
Eathen Huffman threw for a 6-yard pass, and he also ran in the 2-point conversion which gave the Spartans a 14-point lead at the break.

After the Tigers had closed the deficit to seven at the end of three, the Spartans answered with Norton’s second touchdown of the night, a 9-yard run to make it 20-7.

Norton scored for the third time later in the fourth quarter, again from 9 yards out, and Gus McLouth added the 2-point conversion run.

Bladzik finished 3-for-7 passing for 43 yards.

Norton had 216 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 37 carries, while McLouth finished with 35 yards on six tries, Bladzik added 26 on five attempts.

Gradyn Wilson led the tackle chart with five stops and three tackles for loss, Colton Sanders had four tackles and one tackle for loss and Norton had a pass interception.

Melchor led the Tigers with 72 yards on nine rushes.

The Spartans improved their record to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the division. Its regular-season finale is next Friday night at home against inter-county rival Ludington.

Shelby fell to 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in the division with its final game scheduled for next Friday at North Muskegon.
