FRUITPORT – The Western Michigan Christian girls finished second in Thursday’s Alliance League cross country championship.

The WMC boys finished third while Muskegon Catholic was fifth.

Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation won the girls race with 24 points, followed by WM Christian with 41, Wyoming Potters House with 64 and Grand River Prep with 128.

The Warriors finished four runners in the 6-9 slots, led by freshman Leah Sneller (21:55.87) in sixth place. She was followed by seniors Eleanor Kingshott (21:56.13) and Grace Folkema (21:56.13), freshman Kaylie Riksen (21:57.50). Junior Morgan Lawrence was 12th in 22:29.04.

The Warriors ran without their top runner, Grace Vanderkooi. 

“The girls executed the plan for the day to near perfection,” said Warrior coach Greg Gould. “We wanted to run some tempo in the top group and other athletes were racing for the alternate spot on the regional, and hopefully state finals roster.”

For the boys’ race, Potters House had 28 points, followed by Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation with 60, WM Christian with 81, Tri-Unity Christian with 97, Muskegon Catholic with 106 and Grand River Prep at 155.

Senior Graeson Lawrence led the Warriors with a fourth-place finish (17:35.73). He was followed by Reuben Anderson in 17th (18:38.67), Owen Sytsema in 19th (18:42.57), Demitri Lawrence in 22nd (18:51.43) and Ryer Campbell in 23rd (18:56.57). WMC’s top runner, Matthias Morse, did not run on Thursday.

Muskegon Catholic was led by Jacob Lyonnais, who finished eighth (17:47.50). Owen Lyonnais was 13th (18:14.98), Lukas Rennells came in 24th (18:57.17), Jack Walkenhorst was 30th (19:18.17 and Max McCumber rounded out the MCC scoring with a 49th-place finish (20:49.01).
