MUSKEGON – The Oakridge boys basketball team shook off the off-season rust with a win against Newaygo on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles started slow and were behind 24-18 after the first quarter, but then surged to a 75-68 victory. 

Brody Jennings led the way with 17 points, including five three-point baskets. Peyton Ruel added 16 points and seven assists and Evan Miller scored 14 points and dished out three assists. Evan Jozsa recorded 12 points and had eight rebounds.

The Lions’ Logan Klomp had 15 points, while Josiah Long and Caris Nelson chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively. 

Oakridge (1-0) opens West Michigan Conference-Lakes play on Monday against Montague.

Newaygo (1-1) will travel to Chippewa Hills for a CSAA Conference matchup on Thursday.
