NORTH MUSKEGON — North Muskegon used a big second quarter to estabish a double figure lead, and then kept Manistee at arm’s length the rest of the way in locking down a 52-47 win in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.
The game was played at North Muskegon on Wednesday night.
Both teams came into the game undefeated, with Manistee off to a 3-0 start, it’s best in recent memory, while the Norsemen were 2-0 overall.
After the Mariners forged a narrow 11-9 lead after the first quarter, the Norsemen regrouped and came out on fire for the second.
Outscoring the Mariners, 18-6, in the second, the Norsemen went into the half holding a 10-point advantage, 27-17. The Mariners failed to make a dent in it the rest of the way.
North Muskegon managed an 11-10 edge in the third quarter, and led by 11 points, 38-27, going into the fourth.
Jaxon Lisinski led the Norsemen with 12 points, while Adam Dugener and Landen Graham had 10 apiece.
Landyn Sowa continued his early shot streak with a game-high 19 points for the Mariners, with five 3-pointers. He was followed by Tramel Caviness with 12 and Kaden Kott six.
North Muskegon improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the WMC Lakes, and travels to Scottville for a conference crossover game with Mason County Central on Thursday.
Manistee fell to 3-1 and 1-1 in the WMC Lakes, and will be back in Muskegon Thursday for a division game with Oakridge.
