PENTWATER — Taking on a good Brethren team in its second West Michigan D League contest, the Pentwater boys basketball team fought for a 56-53 victory Thursday night.

The game was at Pentwater.

Brethren also came into the game 1-0 in the league, and played like it was bent on making it two straight wins in an early-season league showdown.

Realizing the importance of every possession in a game like this, Pentwater took great care not to be pressured into making any floor errors or mental mistakes.

Pentwater got off to a fast start, outscoring the Bobcats by 10 points, 27-17 in the first quarter. The Falcons hit a bad patch in the second, however, and were outscored 12-5 saw their lead shrink to 32-29 at the half.

Brethren would get no closer as the Falcons matched the Bobcats basket for basket in the second half. The Falcons led, 44-41 after three quarters.

Kaleb Brown had a huge night for the Falcons with 18 points, hitting on 6-of-11 shots from the field, and he also brought down 12 rebounds. Jonny Arnouts was the major facilitator for the Falcons, finding his open teammates for seven assists to go along with three steals and five rebounds while he added 13 points.

Will Werkema-Grondsma and Trey Johnson contributed a combined 17 points with nine and five boards, respectively.

Pentwater improved to 2-0 both overall and in the conference, with another home game scheduled Friday night against Marion in the WMD.
