NORTON SHORES – The Mona Shores girls basketball team raced out to a double-digit lead by halftime and sailed past Hopkins, 56-28, in a non-league matchup on Friday evening.

“This was a great team win going into the break,” said Mona Shores coach Mike Phillips. “A lot of kids got minutes with great contributions from our starters and girls coming off the bench.”

Laynie Russell led the scoring with 13 points and Khaleeya Cook added 11. Katie Phillips chipped in nine points, while Logan Clausen and Ava Freye each scored seven points.

“We will take a few days off to celebrate and then get back in the gym,” said Phillips.

Mona Shores (3-3) will host Ludington after the holiday break on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
