The Newaygo girls’ basketball team went on a 14-6 fourth quarter run to propel the Lions over Central Montcalm 44-40 in a Central State Activities Association match-up on Friday night.

The Lions trailed 27-18 at halftime and 34-28 heading into the final quarter before finishing the contest strong.

Naomi Schillman led Newaygo with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Kija Westbrook added nine points and Lillian Holmes chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and six blocks.

The Lions are now 2-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
