SPRING LAKE – The Grand Haven boys basketball team held off crosstown rival Spring Lake to claim this year’s Drawbridge Classic trophy on Friday.

The Bucs earned an exciting 68-62 victory over a pesky Laker squad.

The Bucs led through the half as they were up 29-26, but the Lakers battled to tie it up at 45-all in the third quarter. The fight continued until three minutes left to play when the Bucs canned eight of 12 free throws to secure the victory.

Zach Schlepp scored 17 points for the Lakers, while Eli Morrison had 10 points. Wren Dephouse contributed nine points and Jaden Core scored eight points.

Grand Haven (2-3) will host the Lake Michigan Cup next Thursday and Friday. The Lakers also will take part in that event.
