HART – The speed of Hart’s girls basketball team was on full display on Tuesday as the Pirates blew past Ravenna in a 72-24 win over the Bulldogs.

Ravenna attacked early as they scored the first basket on a good look down low from junior Mattisen Crowley. The Bulldogs quickly looked outmatched, however, as Hart turned up the heat with an up-tempo brand of offense.

That turned into 11 unanswered points in the first quarter as Pirates senior Abby Hicks and junior Breslyn Porter caught fire. Hart had the speed advantage at every position and ran past Ravenna’s defense for the majority of the night.

Hicks led the way for Hart, scoring 20 and adding six steals and five rebounds. Junior Addi Hovey added 14 points, five steals and four rebounds while junior Kelsey Copenhaver had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Crowley led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Teghan Sterken and Natalie Rosel each added three points.

The Pirates (2-1, 1-0 WMC Rivers) will look to improve their record with a pair of tough teams over the course of the next week. Hart will travel to North Muskegon on Thursday before hosting Lake City on Monday.

Ravenna (0-3, 0-2 WMC Rivers) will hope to rebound at home as they host the conference runners-up in Mason County Central on Thursday.
