HOLTON – The Holton girls basketball team claimed a piece of the title in their inaugural holiday tournament with a strong victory on Friday.

The Red Devils turned up the heat early and never looked back in a 50-12 victory over White Cloud.

“The message to the team was to come out with the needed intensity from the start, and, unlike yesterday, we were able to take control of the game right from the jump,” said Holton coach Robert Jordan.

The Red Devils were able to play all of his players in every quarter.

“We had good balance again this game which is something I always want to have,” Jordan said. “We need to be able to score when teams try to take Robins away with a double team.”

Abbie Fowler battled through an ankle injury to put up 12 points, six steals and four assists. Ryann Robins posted her fifth double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Layla Cannady and Aubrey Goyings each added eight points.

“We still have tons of room for improvement and we need to focus on that and not these last few lopsided wins,” Jordan said. “We know we have several tough challenges coming up.”

Holton (5-1, 1-1) will be at home against Shelby on Thursday, Jan. 4.

White Cloud (3-5, 1-2) is set to travel to Manistee Catholic Central on Friday, Jan. 5.
