FLINT – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks captured a victory on Saturday in the second day of the Mott Community College Round Ball Classic.

The Lady Jayhawks defeated the Mott CC Bears 55-49.

MCC (6-4) led 16-15 after one quarter, but a sluggish second quarter led to a 30-24 deficit.

The Lady Jayhawks turned up the intensity in the second half and outscored the Bears 16-11 in the third quarter and 15-8 in the fourth.

“It was a great win today,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “The team fought through adversity and worked together as a team in the second half to pull out the win.”

Arrionna Williams led the Lady Jayhawks with 15 points, six steals and four assists. Remi Sponseller added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. McKena Wilson also reached double figures with 10 points. Ali Phillips added seven points, Gaby Reeve had seven rebounds and Maiya Hill had six rebounds.

The Jayhawks have a break until after the New Year when they will travel to Port Huron to compete in a two-day tournament at St. Clair Community College on Jan. 5-6.
