ROCHESTER, NY. – The Muskegon Lumberjacks struggled to find the back of the net during the final 40 minutes of play, resulting in their winning streak ending at four games.

The Lumberjacks scored two goals in the first period and led 2-1 at intermission before getting outscored 2-0 during the final two periods. That resulted in a 3-2 loss to Youngstown on Friday night.

Muskegon finishes its weekend American Cup series with Youngstown in New York with a split of its two games.

The Lumberjacks will remain on the road next weekend with games against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Faceoff is slated for 8:05 p.m. next Friday.

Muskegon is now 12-8-2 on the season, good for 26 points and fourth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

The Jacks opened the scoring 3:39 into the contest on an unassisted goal from Matvei Gridin.

The Phantoms tied the game 1-1 with a goal from Miles Gunty at the 10:17 mark of the first period. Muskegon responded with a goal from Joe Conner 14:31 into the opening period.

The Jacks led 2-1 through 20 minutes of play while outshooting Youngstown 15-13.

Youngstown scored a pair of second period goals to take its first lead of the contest.

Braiden Clark tied the game 6:29 into the middle stanza, while Gunty added his second goal of the contest 17:03 into the second period.

The Phantoms led 3-2 heading into the final period while holding a 25-22 advantage in shots on goal.

Both teams failed to find the back of the net during the third period.

Muskegon dominated in shots on goal during the third period with a 12-3 advantage. The Jacks had a 34-28 advantage total in the shots department.

Lukas Swedin suffered the loss in net. He stopped 25-of-28 shots on goal.

The Lumberjacks went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Youngstown failed to score during its two-man advantages.
