FRUITPORT – The Fruitport Calvary Christian boys basketball team took down neighboring Fruitport for the first time in school history on Tuesday.

Though the Trojans followed close behind, the Eagles maintained a lead throughout and won, 62-57.

“I’m real proud of our guys as they battled through adversity tonight with the injury and foul troubles, while also missing free throws,” said Eagles’ coach Brad Richards. “We saw how Fruitport rolled WMC last Friday and knew we were in for a very tough battle tonight.”

Bradley Richards racked up 35 points, including 20 points in the second half, and pulled down 14 rebounds for a double-double. Sam Zelenka also posted a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Despite fouling out in the third quarter, Quinn Swanson chipped in nine points and four assists.

Kyle Burke and DayDay Williams led the Trojans with 21 and 13 points, respectively.

Fruitport Calvary Christian (2-0) will be back at home on Thursday to host Grand Rapids Sacred Heart.

Fruitport (1-1) hosts Montague on Tuesday.
