JENISON – Travis Ambrose became the seventh Reeths-Puffer Rocket to reach 1,000 career points in a victory over Jenison on Tuesday.

The Rockets held off a third quarter scoring push from Jenison to secure a 49-42 victory.

Ambrose is the second Rocket this season to join the club.  Jaxson Whitaker reached the milestone earlier this season.

On Tuesday, Ambrose scored 13 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had two blocks.

“Ambrose does everything in life well and always strives for greatness,” said Rocket coach Nate Aardema. “It’s cool to see such great kids and two great friends earn their 1,000th point within a few games of each other.”

Brayden Mitchelson added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Whitaker scored 10 points, dished out five assists and snagged a pair of steals. Antrel Jones had nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

The Rockets shot a dismal 8-for-18 from the free-throw line.

“We really shot the ball poorly on the night,” said Aardema. “We need to refocus and get ready for league play.”

Reeths-Puffer (6-1) will open OK-Green action at home against Mona Shores on Friday.
