FREMONT – A first-quarter deficit wasn’t enough to keep Fremont’s girls basketball team down as the Packers battled back to defeat Shelby 69-45 on Monday.

Shelby found success early, going shot for shot with Fremont to the tune of a 16-15 advantage after the first eight minutes of play. The Packers used the next two quarters to grab the lead and build on it, outscoring the Tigers 38-16 over the second and third and quarters.

Jessica Bennett had a huge game for Fremont, recording a career high 27 points to go along with eight blocks. Taylor DeKuiper  also finished with a career high in points with 18 and finished with a double-double, adding 10 steals. Mia Clemence also chipped in 10 assists.

For Shelby, Brylee Friedman led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds. Kylie Brown tallied nine points and nine rebounds while Biloxi Lee brought down 11 boards.

The Packers (14-3, 9-0 WMC Lakes) will host Whitehall on Thursday as they look to remain unbeaten in the conference.

Shelby (5-11, 3-7 WMC Rivers) has a tough conference outing at home up against Mason County Central on Thursday.
