GRAND RAPIDS – Despite a monster game from Bradley Richards, the Fruitport Calvary Christian boys basketball team fell short, 92-89, in an Alliance league contest against Grand Rapids Wellspring Prep.

Richards was on fire with a double-double 45 points and 21 rebounds.

The Eagles had the lead multiple times over the third and fourth quarters, but costly missed free throws proved to be the difference.

“Great effort physically from our guys against a good Class C team,” said Calvary Christian coach Brad Richards. “We love our guys, but we’ll need improved leadership from our three captains to be consistent in every aspect of the game.

“We’ll need to improve defensively and then we’ll have a chance to be a really good team,” said Richards.

Also for the Eagles, Quinn Swanson poured in 27 points, while Sam Zelenka scored 13 points and dished out a school record 16 assists.

Fruitport Calvary Christian (7-5, 0-2) will visit Muskegon Catholic on Friday for a conference game.
