WHITEHALL — Mason County Central’s wrestling team lost both of its dual matches Wednesday night at Whitehall.

In the first match, the Spartans fell to No. 2-ranked Whitehall, 72-6, and to Shelby 48-29.

Seventh ranked senior 138-pounder Zane McCabe got the Spartans lone win, a pin of No. 13 Caden Varella of Whitehall with only 1 second left in the match.

“I think Zane was up by over 15 so it would have been a technical fall anyway,” said Spartan coach Kendel Trim. “Varella was pretty close to Zane both times last year. But Zane was on today and just too much for him,”

McCabe also won by technical fall over Brody Fessenden of Shelby.

Also winning matches were junior Hunter Sanford at 126, freshman William Thomsen at 144, senior Brayden Overmyer at 157 and sophomore Landon Angst at 175.

Central’s next match is Saturday at the Shelby Super Duals.
