HOLLAND – It truly came down to the wire for Hart’s girls basketball team on Tuesday as they fell 54-51 to Holland Christian.

After allowing the Maroons to get out to an 11-4 lead early in the first, the Pirates battle back to take a 13-11 lead heading into the second quarter. Good defense for both teams in that second frame made scoring tough, leading to a 20-20 tie as time ticked inside one minute before halftime. Holland Christian managed to go on a 5-0 run to end the quarter, owning a 25-20 lead at the break.

Connecting from beyond the arc in the third, the Maroons pushed their lead to eight at 45-36 by the end of the third. In the fourth quarter, Holland Christian led by as many as 16 before Hart mounted a comeback.

Freshman Rilynn Porter connected on a 3-point shot to cut the deficit to six and two steals for the Pirates on the following two Holland Christian possessions allowed Hart to get within two. With 23 seconds remaining, the Pirates had the ball trailing by two and watched Porter pull up from three-point range, only to see the ball roll in and back out, spelling an end to the night.

Hart was led by Kelsey Copenhaver with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Breslyn Porter added 10 points of her own. Addy Hovey chipped in nine points, seven rebounds and four assists and Abby Hicks had eight points, seven steals, four rebounds and four assists.

The Pirates (8-3, 5-0 WMC Rivers) will jump back into the conference schedule on Thursday as they travel to Ravenna.
