CADILLAC — The Ludington Orioles were simply outmuscled by Cadillac in a 66-51 loss to the Vikings.

The hosts hit the offensive glass real hard and that was one their keys to victory in the non-league matchup.

After the teams battled to a 13-all tie in the first quarter, the Vikings pulled ahead with a 15-6 second quarter and went into the half with a 28-19 lead.

The Vikings (13-1) outscored the Orioles in each of the last two periods, 13-11 in the third for a 41-30 lead and had a 25-21 edge in a wild fourth quarter.

“It was a good game. The score doesn’t indicate how close it was,” Ludington coach Thad Shank said. “We were really, really good in spots. Cadillac is as good a half-court offensive team as we’ve played this season.”

David Shillinger led all scorers with 25 points for the Orioles. Cam Gunsell contributed 12, including 10 in the first half, and Spencer Holmes added 10.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Orioles and dropped them to 8-5 overall. Ludington travels to Fremont for a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division game Friday.
