WALKERVILLE — Walkerville’s boys basketball team took an early lead and just kept building on it Friday night en route to a 57-33 home win over Manistee Catholic in the West Michigan D League.

The Wildcats ended the first quarter with a 16-10 advantage on the Sabers, and then outscored them 14-6 in the second for a 30-16 bulge at halftime.

It was all Walkerville in the second half as the Wildcats extended their lead to 46-21 at the end of three. ManisteeĀ  Catholic tried to make a run in the fourth, but their 12-11 edge was not nearly enough.

Collin Chase stepped up big for the Wildcats, hitting 9-of-15 field goal attempts with three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points. Zeontac DeLaPaz also scored in double figures with 14 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the field, while Jordan Oomen finished with nine points.

The Wildcats shot 24-of-43 from the field, but were only 2-of-14 at the free-throw line.

DeLaPaz pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Wildcats, while Abel Lopez grabbed five. Chase picked off four steals and distributed five assists. DeLaPaz nabbed three steals, dished off for three assists and had five blocked shots. Lopez and Connor Shafer had three steals each.

Landyn Keyquom paced the Sabers with 15 points and Evan Harvey added 10.

Walkerville improved to 5-4 on the season and 5-2 in the WMD with the win. The Wildcats travel to Brethren for another league game next Wednesday.

The Sabers fell to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the WMD, with their next game scheduled for Monday night at Fruitport Calvary Christian.
