The Fruitport boys’ basketball team got back into the victory column on Tuesday night with a 50-43 victory over Grand Rapids West Catholic.

The Trojans, who had lost 14 straight games, led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter, trailed 23-22 at halftime and had a 34-32 advantage going into the fourth before closing strong on a 16-11 run.

It was the Trojans’ first victory in the league.

DayDay Williams and Ryan Bosch paced Fruitport with 14 points each while Kyle Burke scored nine and Grade Anspach added six.

“This was a big game for our team, as it has been quite a stretch without a win,” said Fruitport coach Steve Erny. “To our players’ credit, they have shown a ton of resolve throughout this season and have continued to stay together. Tonight was a win they earned for sure.”

The Trojans will host Hamilton on Friday night for Senior Night.
