GRAYLING – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks finished off their trip north with another victory on Saturday afternoon.

After defeating Alpena on Friday, the Lady Jayhawks routed Kirtland Community College 78-34 to finish their trip 2-0.

“Wow, what a hard-earned win today,” said MCC coach Jason Cooper, whose team suffered injuries on Friday that depleted the roster on Saturday. “Finishing a road trip 2-0 with multiple injuries is huge for us. We just need to get healthy for the season to come.”

MCC actually trailed 13-11 after one quarter, but regained its focus and surged in the second quarter and took a 36-22 lead into the half. The lead increased to 55-33 after three quarters. The Lady Jayhawks outscored the Thunderbirds 23-1 in the final quarter.

Kirtland turned over the ball 33 times in the game with the Jayhawks collecting 20 steals.

The Jayhawks (11-9, 5-2) also shot 30 free throws to the Thunderbirds 10.

Three Lady Jayhawks reached double figures, led by Ty’veonna Davis with 23. She also had nine rebounds and seven steals. McKena Wilson had 16 points and Ali Phillipis had 11 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists.  Remi Sponseller added eight points and nine rebounds and Gaby Reeve had eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Maiya Hill had six points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Alexis McMahon finished with six points.

Kirtland is now 2-10, 1-5.

The Jayhawks will travel to Delta College on Wednesday to start the second half of the conference season.
