HART – There was simply no stopping Hart senior Blake Weirich on Friday night as he torched Shelby in a 70-56 win for the Pirates.

Weirich scored 18 of his game-high 33 points in the game’s opening quarter as Hart’s full court-press gave Shelby fits. The Tigers gave the ball up 17 times in the first quarter, leading to quick transition points the other way and a double-digit deficit at the end of one.

Extending their lead in the second, the Pirates entered halftime with a 40-23 lead. From there, it was all gas and no brakes as each time Shelby seemed to find an answer offensively, Hart would nail a big shot to put them back on their heels.

Weirich’s point total included six 3-pointers. Weirich also added 11 rebounds, four steals, four blocks and three assists. Jesse Jacobs and Brendan Hiddema each had good nights scoring as well with 12 points.

Hart (8-8, 6-2 WMC Rivers) moved back to .500 on the season with the win. The Pirates will have a week of non-conference games starting with Western Michigan Christian on Monday.

Shelby (3-11, 1-6 WMC Rivers) continue to try and find consistency as they have yet to win back-to-back contests this season. The Tigers will head south to Montague for a meeting with the Wildcats on Tuesday.
