CADILLAC – The Montague Wildcats are sending five girl wrestlers to the state finals after Sunday’s results.

Competing in Cadillac in the Red 1 Regional, the Wildcats were led by a first-place finish by Ava Pelton (155).

Besides Pelton, other top finishers for the Wildcats included Emma Pendell in second place at 145, Savannah Winkelblack, who finished third at 110, Trisha Beckman, who finished third at 235 and Abby Thommen was fourth at 125.

For Mason County Central, Nyvaeh Wendt had a strong showing in the 125-pound division and finished second. She will be heading to the state final meet as well.

In all, Montague is sending seven wrestlers – two boys and five girls – to the state finals, which as scheduled for Marsh 1-2 at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.
