REMUS – The Newaygo girls basketball team earned a solid 54-22 CSAA victory over Chippewa Hills on Friday night.

The Lions led 29-10 after the first two quarters and stretched it out in the second half even further.

“The team played a pretty complete game tonight,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma. “We got into some early foul trouble which put some pressure on our rotations, but I thought as the game went on, we were able to dictate the tempo on both ends of the court.”

Amaya Lathrop led the Lions with 17 points, seven steals and two assists. Addison Goodin added 11 points, eight rebounds and six steals, while Ruby Hughes threw in seven points, five rebounds and four steals.

Newaygo (11-9, 4-6) will compete in the CSAA tournament on Tuesday.
