MESICK — A shot at winning a share of the West Michigan D League was at stake when Pentwater’s boys basketball team traveled to Mesick on Thursday night.

The stage for the Falcons’ huge showdown in the league with the Baldwin Panthers was successfully set up when Pentwater rolled to an easy 68-29 win over the Bulldogs. The Falcons have won four straight games.

Pentwater is just one game behind the Panthers and can clinch a co-championship in the WMD with a win.

“We played exceptionally well together, and had four players in double figures,” said Pentwater coach Ashley Lubera. “At times, passing was so enjoyable to watch.”

Pentwater jumped out to a 19-10 lead in the first quarter and went into the half with a 33-17 advantage. It was 54-19 after three quarters.

Mikey Carlson burned the Bulldogs for 19 points and Trey Johnson was right behind with 18.

Will Werkema-Grondsma had 18 rebounds 18 while Carlson took down six.

The Falcons are 16-5 overall, 15-2 in the league. Pentwater hosts Baldwin next Thursday night.
