FREMONT – The Fremont girls basketball team remained undefeated in the West Michigan Conference-Lakes with a 53-37 victory over Whitehall on Thursday.

The Packers opened slowly and fell behind 14-9 after the first quarter, but found a spark to outscore the Vikings 30-14 through the second and third quarters. The Packers maintained a 10-point lead throughout the fourth quarter.

“We have talked about how every team will be giving us their best shot and we have to learn how to handle that,” said Fremont coach Pete Zerfas. “Whitehall has also made huge improvements throughout the year.”

Jessica Bennett had a strong night for the Packers with a double-double of 15 points and 10 blocks. Mia Clemence scored 10 points and snagged six steals, while Taylor DeKuiper added 10 points, seven steals and seven rebounds. Riley Chase had seven points and five steals for the Packers.

“We had really good balance again as we prove we are not just one or two players,” said Zerfas.

Fremont (15-3, 10-0) will travel to Mason County Central on Wednesday.

Whitehall (7-12, 5-6) visits Grant on Tuesday.
