WYOMING – The Western Michigan Christian girls’ basketball team overpowered Tri-Unity Christian, 69-30, in an Alliance League game on Tuesday.

The Warriors built a 31-24 lead after the first half then buckled down on defense in the third quarter to hold Tri-Unity Christian scoreless.

“We played a strong defensive second half,” said WMC coach Sarah Koetsier. “We worked hard to get rebounds and force turnovers.”

Ashley Folkema led the Warriors with 23 points and seven steals, while Kate Derdowski had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kasey Folkema chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Maria Eenigenburg had eight points, seven rebounds and five steals.

“We found open players and made great shots,” said Koetsier. “It was a great team effort tonight.”

WMC (13-4, 6-0) will see more conference action as they travel to Kentwood Grand River Prep on Friday.
