Jaxson Whitaker became Reeths-Puffers’ all-time leading scorer in boys’ basketball on Friday night in a 54-50 victory over Zeeland West.

Whitaker, who now has 1,374 career points, paced the Rockets with 22 points to go along with seven assists and two steals.

Reeths-Puffer trailed 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, 25-24 at halftime and 36-34 through three quarters of play.

The Rockets closed out the game strong, going on a 20-14 fourth quarter tear to earn the regular-season finale win.

“It was another great game between Zeeland West and Reeths-Puffer,” said Rocket coach Nate Aardema. “It was close throughout the game and neither team was able to take a big lead.”

Marvin Moore, who made some huge 3-point baskets during the second half and helped gain the momentum for Reeths-Puffer, chipped in 16 points.

Travis Ambrose added eight points, seven rebounds, and four blocks for the Rockets, while Brayden Mitchelson contributed with seven points, four rebounds, and four assists.

The Rockets have earned a share of the O-K Green title with Muskegon with their 13-1 league mark. Overall, R-P is 19-3.

Reeths-Puffer opens tournament play on Wednesday against host Mona Shores in district semifinal action.
