CUSTER — Pentwater might have come in as a slight favorite against Baldwin, but the old adage that it’s tough to beat a team three times in the same season proved pretty accurate Monday night,

The teams did battle and when the clock expired, Pentwater prevailed, 49-32.

Pentwater now prepares to take on another West Michigan D League foe in Manistee Catholic Central on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

The game was close through the first three periods, with the Falcons taking a narrow 9-6 lead after the first quarter and holding just a 19-15 edge at the half.

Each team scored eight points in the third quarter so the Falcons held a slim 27-23 lead into the fourth. The Falcons exploded for a 22-9 fourth quarter to pull away.

“We continuously got great looks, but just couldn’t finish the play, and missed a lot of bunnies,” said Pentwater coach Joe Gorton. “The same story in the third quarter. Finally, the dam broke in the fourth quarter. We were able to get some of their key people in foul trouble and they eventually fouled out.”

Aubrie Adams finished the game with 15 points to lead the Falcons. That total included three 3-pointers. Charlie Swanger tossed in 11 and Sam Schaefer chipped in 10.

Mandi Sayles struggled from the field, but tore down 16 rebounds and Mckenna Hasil facilitated the offense from the high post and also ripped down nine boards.

Pentwater improved to 15-6.
