MUSKEGON – The Spring Lake boys basketball team earned their eighth Division 2 district title in 11 years on Friday night.

The Lakers overpowered rival Fruitport, 42-26. It was the Lakers’ third victory this season over the Trojans.

The Trojans made a 12-4 first-quarter run, but the Lakers surged to a 38-14 scoring advantage over the next three quarters. 

Zach Schlepp scored 10 points for the Lakers, while Eli Morrison added nine points. Colin Burt and Jaden Core threw in eight and six points, respectively.

DayDay Williams led Fruitport with 14 points.

Spring Lake (13-12) will open regional action against Fremont on Tuesday. That game will be at Allendale.

Fruitport wrapped up the season with a record of 7-18.
