COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk softball team played a pair of games on Thursday on its spring trip and earned gained a split.

In the opener, the Jayhawks lost to Bryant Stratton, 10-3. In the nightcap, MCC came back and defeated John Melvin University, 10-9, in eight innings.

In the first game, Jasmine Pastor had two hits, including a home run. She knocked in a pair of runs. Willo Staal and Lilli Goodrich had two hits each and both scored a run.

Goodrich pitched six innings and allowed 10 runs on 10 hits. She had four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Brooklyn Galdeen had three hits. Pastor added two hits and knocked in three runs. Illeana Hatcher also had two hits, a walk, scored four runs and belted a triple.

Staal had two hits, but it was her walkoff triple in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave the Jayhawks the victory. She knocked in three runs in the game.

Hannah Aldred and Galdeen pitched four innings each.

MCC (3-4) concludes its trip on Friday with three games before heading home.
