SHELBY – The Shelby girls basketball team kicked off Division 3 district play with a 42-19 rout over White Cloud on Monday night.

“It was a good defensive game for us, we did a good job of rotating and talking,” said Shelby coach Sarah Wolting “My girls are playing pretty confident and we need to keep it rolling the rest of the week.”

The teams were tied at five after the first quarter, but the Tigers went on an 8-2 second-quarter run to lead 13-7 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Indians 29-12 over the second half.

Molli Schultz poured in 14 points for the Tigers, while Kylie Brown added 11 points and nine rebounds. Biloxi Lee grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out six assists.

The Indians’ Jaden Gomez put up eight points and Tanayah Klammer threw in five points.

“I told the girls after the game that I enjoyed every minute of the season because they are a fun bunch to be around,” said White Cloud coach Caleb Wilk. “I’ll miss coaching our six seniors, but I know they will be going off to do amazing things.”

Shelby (7-16) will be at home at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against North Muskegon in the district semifinal.

White Cloud finished the season with a record of 8-15.
