FRUITPORT – Offensive rebounds from Kendall Osborne and a key free throw from Lexi Daggett down the stretch helped propel the Whitehall girls’ basketball team to a 36-33 victory over Oakridge on Monday.

The Vikings will face Spring Lake next on Wednesday in a Division 2 district semifinal contest at Fruitport. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Osborne, Daggett and Clare Westerlund combined to score 31 of Whitehall’s 36 points.

“Kendall did a great job handling the ball and getting the Vikings into the offense,” said Whitehall coach Brian Milliron. “Lexi did well attacking the basketball which were the keys for Whitehall.”

The contest was tied 5-5 at the end of the opening quarter, before Whitehall took a slim 15-14 halftime lead.

The Eagles outscored Whitehall by a single point in the third quarter to tie the game at 23-all heading into the final quarter.

The Vikings closed out the contest on a 13-10 fourth-quarter run to seal the win.

Oakridge was led by Anna Lundquist with 20 points, 15 rebounds and five steals while Cambria Guenthardt scored four points.

“It was as a hard-fought game all the way to the finish,” said Oakridge coach Saxson Smith. “I’m proud of the effort the girls put forward.”
