NORTON SHORES – The Mona Shores girls lacrosse team fell short to Hudsonville, 12-8, in OK-Green play on Monday.

The Sailors’ Jordyn Briseno was tasked with guarding one of the best attackers in the area and limited her to just one goal.

“She’s on an island by herself most games and knows no help is coming,” said Mona Shores coach Chip Vasquez. “It’s a blessing we have someone who can play lockdown defense on your opponent’s best player.”

Lainee Carmean led the attack with four goals, two assists and two draw controls, while Madelyn Warren added a goal and a draw control. Danika Johnson and Cambree Bowen each chipped in a single goal. Emma Reelman had two assists and two draw controls.

Reese Smith gave a solid effort on both ends of the field, according to Vasquez.

“I’m pretty demanding on my midfielders even though they don’t always end up in the stat book,” said Vasquez. “They are asked to do a lot and she did.”

Keeper Ansley Heyward made 10 saves.

“We are getting better every day, learning from our mistakes and starting to gel,” Vasquez said. “I can’t wait for it all to come together because it will be beautiful to watch.”

Mona Shores (2-5, 1-2) will travel to Zeeland East on Wednesday for a conference match.
