GRAND RAPIDS – For the second straight day, the Muskegon Community College Jayhawk softball team swept a doubleheader from Grand Rapids Community College.

On Saturday, the Jayhawks swept the Raiders on their home field. On Sunday, the Jayhawks traveled to Grand Rapids and came home with 6-1 and 15-7 victories.

In the opener, Lilli Goodrich turned in a strong seven innings of work on the mound. She allowed one run on five hits and registered 11 strikeouts.

Hannah Aldred and Illeana Hatcher had three hits each to lead the offensive attack. Hatcher flashed her power at the plate with a home run, triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Brooklyn Galdeen and Andrea Romero each had two hits and Jasmine Pastor had a double and knocked in one run.

In the nightcap, Andrea Romero had four hits, including two doubles, and three RBI. Galdeen had a home run, triple and double. She knocked in four runs and scored four times. Olive Staal and Willo Staal each had three hits. Willo Staal had two doubles and knocked in a pair of run. 

Goodrich had a pair of hits, including a triple, Pastor had two hits, including a double, and Hatcher had a pair of hits.

Aldred started the game on the mound for MCC and went five innings. She allowed two runs and struck out two. Galdeen pitched two innings and earned the victory. Goodrich also pitched two innings and gave up five runs.

Jayhawks (18-8) will host Delta College on Friday with Game 1 beginning at 2 p.m. and Game 2 to follow.
