SPARTA – The Fruitport baseball team split a doubleheader with Sparta on Saturday.

The Trojans opened with a 5-0 shutout win, but fell to the Spartans 15-8 in the nightcap.

Hudson Hazekamp gave up three hits, one walk and struck out a batter in seven innings of the opening game.

“Hazekamp kept the Spartans off balance and off of the board,” said Fruitport coach Nick Reed. “Our defense played phenomenal and turned multiple double plays to help Hazekamp on the mound.”

Brady French had three hits, while Ryan Bosch and Jax Flynn added two hits apiece. Braxton Ward chipped in two doubles.

In the second game, Fruitport’s Avery Lambers had two hits and three RBI. Trevor Rusnak had two hits and two RBI, while Christian Kennedy had a pair of hits.

Fruitport will travel to Holland Christian on Tuesday for a doubleheader.
