WHITEHALL – The Oakridge softball team went 2-1 at the Lakeshore Grand Slam on Saturday.

“Our girls allowed just one run over three games on the day and that is what happens when you pitch and catch well,” said Oakridge coach Joe Coletta. “We played good defense and supported each other.”

The Eagles opened with a 19-0 rout over Spring Lake. They followed that up with a 1-0 loss to state-ranked Escanaba and capped off the day with a 12-0 victory over Zeeland East.

The opening game was highlighted by home runs from Gracie Willea, Madi Clark, Ahria Doornbos, Kaelinn Jozsa and Kelcey Osborne.

Osborne gave up just three hits at the mound.

In game two, the Eagles fell short in eight innings to Escanaba, which is ranked No 4 in Division 2.

Kylee Willea gave up one run over eight innings.

The Eagles managed one hit against Escanaba’s University of Michigan-bound pitcher.

The Eagles closed out the day with a strong victory over Zeeland East.

Osborne had another strong performance at the mound and struck out eight batters in five innings. She allowed two hits.

Clark posted three RBI for the Eagles.

Oakridge (5-1) will be at Whitehall on Tuesday for a doubleheader.
