MUSKEGON – The Oakridge Eagle softball team found the going a bit difficult on Thursday and dropped both ends of a non-league doubleheader to Byron Center.

The Eagles lost the opener, 5-3, and the nightcap, 7-1.

“These are exactly the kind of teams and games we want to be in,” said Eagle coach Joe Coletta. “Byron Center is a skilled, well coached team that tested our team both physically and mentally.  We learned more about our team today than any other game so far.”

In the opener, Sophia Holverstott broke a 4-all tie in the fifth inning with a three-run homer, her second home run of the game. That put Byron Center out front. Kylee Willea took the loss on the mound for Oakridge.

In the second game, the Eagles had a tough time putting together hits against Byron Center’s deep pitching staff. The Eagles did have six hits, including two from Kaelinn Jozsa. Both her hits were doubles. Gracie Clark drove in the lone run.

Kelcey Osborne was solid on the mound for four innings, but was saddled with the loss.

Oakridge (7-3) hosts Fremont on Tuesday.
