The West Michigan Whitecaps increased their first place lead with a 2-1 ten inning victory at Dayton on Sunday.

West Michigan is 34-15 on the season and two games ahead of Dayton for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

Jake Robson gave the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead in the top of third when he hit a triple scoring Cam Gibson. Dayton didn’t trail for long as they tied the game at 1-1 in the home half of the inning.

The two teams remained tied until the tenth inning when Cole Bauml scored on a Chad Sedio ground ball to make the score 2-1 in favor of West Michigan.

Tom de Blok pitched a perfect tenth inning to seal the win for West Michigan.

Bauml led the Whitecap offense with two hits on the day while starting pitcher Spenser Watkins picked up a no-decision. Watkins allowed one run on four hits while striking out five in six innings of work.

West Michigan will close out its series at Dayton on Monday at 2 p.m.
