The Hesperia softball team broke open an extra-inning game with six runs in the top of the ninth inning to grab a 12-7 victory over White Cloud on Friday in the first game of a CSAA Silver Division doubleheader.

Ellie Palmer pitched all nine innings for the win, striking out nine. Lynnsey Tinkham had four hits, including two doubles and two singles, with two RBIs for Hesperia. Makenna Swisher had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs. Daelyn McKinnon also homered for the Panthers.

Hesperia completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory in Game 2. Tinkham pitched a complete game victory. McKinnon had three hits, including two doubles, and Alyssa Miller had two hits and knocked in three runs.

The Panthers are now 13-11 overall and 10-7 in conference play.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

HART 24-15, SHELBY 5-0 – Kloe Dumonte led Hart in Game 1 with four hits while Skylar Smith had three doubles and three RBIs. Cassidy Copenhaver, Finley Kistler and Myryssa Hopkins each added two hits apiece while Copenhaver picked up the win on the mound.

Hart shut out Shelby in the second game, which only lasted four innings due to the mercy rule. Sabrina Pickard led the offense with three hits. Finley Kistler was great on the mound, scattering two hits while striking out seven and walking one.

The Pirates are now 15-12 on the season.
