Spring Lake girls soccer team advances to regional finals with a win over Zeeland East

Goalkeeper Kamryn Lewkowski posted her 15th shutout of the season as the Spring Lake girls soccer team defeated Zeeland East 5-0 on Tuesday in a Division 2 regional contest at Holland High School.

Sara Gray started the scoring off for the Lakers on a header, with an assist from Madeline Zenas. A goal by Laney Peasley, with another assist from Zenas, put the Lakers up 2-0 at the half.

Peasley scored again early in the second half, then Taylor Colquitt and Meah Bajt each scored insurance goals for the Lakers, with assists from Lauren Hewitt and Kate Lewkowski, respectively.

Spring Lake Coach Becky May credited Lewkowski, Hewitt and Maggie Holmes for their strong defensive play.

Spring Lake play Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern in the regional finals on Friday at 6 p.m. in Holland. A victory would put the Lakers in the state semifinals.
