BENTON HARBOR—Muskegon Community College Women’s Basketball team traveled to Lake Michigan College on Wednesday evening for a conference match-up with the Red Hawks. MCC fell in overtime 81-75.

The Jayhawks had another slow start allowing LMC to jump out to a 9-0 lead and eventually found themselves trailing 19-12 after the first ten minutes of play.

MCC took care of business in the second stanza as they held the Red Hawks to only 3 points while scoring 20 themselves and led at the halftime break by ten at 32-22.

The Jayhawks came out of halftime with momentum. Both teams scored 18 third quarter points.

In the fourth quarter MCC struggled to knock down some shots and allowed the Red Hawks to outscore them 28-18 which led to a 68-68 tie at the end of regulation.

The Jayhawks again struggled through the overtime period being outscored 13-7.

It was another slow start, we are struggling on the road. We have some work to do to get our momentum back, “said Jayhawks head coach Jason Cooper.

Mariah Pringle (Brethren) led the Jayhawk scoring attack with a team high 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

Joining her double figures was Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg) with 11 points and five rebounds, Trina Lewis (Reeths-Puffer) chipped in with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals and Calla Miller (Fremont) finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

MCC falls to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. The Jayhawks will take to the court again on Saturday, Jan. 29 on the road at Ancilla College at 1:00 pm.
