MONTAGUE — Montague’s baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Big Rapids, 15-3 and 10-0 at home Wednesday night.

Kade Johnson earned the victory on the mound for the Wildcats in Game 1, throwing three innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out two.

Owen Petersen threw two innings of relief and struck out four batters.

Chase Gowell had two hits with a double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Colton Blankstrom also had two hits with one RBI and three runs scored. Tugg Nichols finished with two RBI, while Aidan Buchberger scored three runs.

Blankstrom was the winning pitcher in the second game. He gave up just two hits, one walk and struck out eight in five innings.

Hayden McDonald had two hits with a double, two RBI and one run scored. Buchberger had a double and two runs scored, and Blankstrom had four RBI.

“Great pitching and defense was the key today to spark us,” said Wildcats head coach Kevin Buchberger. “A lot of patient at-bats, and some timely hits helped make the offense score some runs.”

Montague improved to 10-6.
