MUSKEGON–The Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team lost a close one Wednesday evening as they fell to the Calvin College JV team, 59-57.
The game was played at MCC.
The Jayhawks struggled from the free-throw line, but the game remained tight the entire 40 minutes.
The Knights led after the first quarter, 12-11.
MCC held a 24-23 lead at the half.
Calvin outscored the Jayhawks 17-13 in the third quarter and held a 40-37 lead.
MCC held the upper hand 20-19 in the final 10 minutes, but came up a short.
The Jayhawks fell to 3-2 overall on the season.
“It was a tough loss tonight. We could never swing the momentum our way,” said Jayhawks coach Jason Cooper.
Calla Miller (Fremont) led the way for MCC with a team-high 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Emmerson Goodin (Newaygo) had 17 points, nine rebounds and one steal.
Other contributors for the Jayhawks included: Yuna Soma (Komaba) with eight points and 3 assists, Karleigh Jeffries (Whitehall) had six points and eight rebounds to go with three assists and three steals. Kendall Zoulek (Shelby) had six rebounds and three assists. Ally Sieber (Reeths-Puffer) had six rebounds.
The Jayhawks will host Morton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
